Alcohol Use and Memory

Heavy alcohol consumption may affect short-term memory, according to a study in the journal Alcoholism: Clinical and Experimental Research. Heavy drinkers reported more than 30 percent more memory-related problems than those who said they didn't drink, and almost 25 percent more problems than those who said they drank only small amounts. Memory problems included missing appointments, forgetting birthdays and neglecting to pay bills on time.
